Hapki-Seon Philosophy

Hapki-Seon(zen) Philosophy Hapki-Seon(zen) is the discipline built on philosophical thoughts. Hapki-Seon(zen) is based on two philosophical prin-ciples. (1) One is the principle of motion, which is based on the motion of the universe (원circle 유water 화harmony) and (2) the other is the principle of energy, which is based on the condensed energy from the unity of human body and mind (mind, spirit, and body) The former is from the culture and philosophy of the Oriental people, which lead them to be obedient to the universe. The latter is from the philosophy of Korean Hapki-Seon(zen) based on three elements sky, earth and human being, which leads to the discipline to unify our mind, spirit, and body with the universe. The former is the discipline of obedience based on Confucian principles. The latter is the discipline to train ourselves on Buddhist principles. The first training programs of Hapki-Seon(zen) are based on Confucianism and Taoism, and the second programs are based on Buddhism. The first training programs of Hapki-Seon(zen) are designed for training for damaging ways such as defense and offense, and the second training programs are for the training to move to the nature of the universe by communicating with the counterpart and helping each other. Even at present our martial arts seem to train the damaging ways of punching, kicking, breaking, and throwing, which are for fighting and protecting the body. In Hapki-Seon(zen), however, if one stops at the appropriate moment when attacking it may benefit rather than hurt the counterpart, and if one stops at the appropriate moment when defending and pressing it may give good energy to the counterpart and benefit him. The training of Hapki-Seon(zen) is to help communicating and corresponding with each other like this. When young, one may want to train through damaging ways because he is energetic, and when one is old and on a higher level, he wants to train through benefiting and helping the others, overcoming the damaging ways and enter into the world of zen through discipline For the first programs one can learn through internet because one can master ways of offense and defense by learning their techniques using texts and videos. However, for the second, third and fourth programs one needs deeper training with the help of the trainer who is at the higher level because the second, third and fourth programs are designed for the systematic training which provides liveliness and energy to the body and mind through sophisticated and philosophical training
